Consultant Colorectal & Emergency General Surgeon, Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital

Katie Adams is a consultant colorectal surgeon at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital in London where she is also the lead for the department of Gastrointestinal Surgery. In addition to general colorectal surgery, she subspecialises in robotic and open operations for patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), intestinal failure and other benign conditions such as complex perianal fistulae. She regularly presents at national and international academic meetings on colorectal surgery, including robotic IBD surgery.

Nationally she was recently the Chair of the Early Years Consultant Network and previously the president of the Dukes’ Club (national colorectal training organisation), She now sits on the Association of Coloproctology and Great Britain & Ireland committees for IBD and External Affairs.

After medical school at Guy’s & St Thomas’, her surgical training was conducted in London, and was awarded the national gold medal for the final consultant qualification exam. The completed a subspecialised fellowship in Sydney, Australia before taking up a consultant post at Guy’s & St Thomas’.

Her PhD focused on Artificial Intelligence in relation to Colorectal Surgery and research interests include improving patient outcomes in inflammatory bowel disease & other benign bowel conditions.
