Lady Arbuthnot

Senior District Judge (Chief Magistrate) for England and Wales

Lady Arbuthnot was called to the bar in 1986 and was a barrister in the chambers of Roy Amlot QC. She prosecuted and defended in rape, murder, fraud and health and safety cases. In 2001 and 2002 she became a Recorder of the Crown Court and a Deputy District Judge (Magistrates’ Court). In 2011, she became a bencher of the Inner Temple and in 2014, she took the role of Recorder in the Family Court. In 2016, Lady Arbuthnot was appointed Senior District Judge (Chief Magistrate) for England and Wales. She is also a School Governor and the Chairman and Vice Chairman of two youth clubs.
